Several people were killed and many others injured when a Car drove into a crowd at the Lapu Lapu Filipino Festival in Vancouver, Canada, Yesterday.
Vancouver Police confirmed that the driver is now in custody. It is still unclear whether the crash was accidental or deliberate.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, who is seeking re-election today, expressed his sorrow following the tragic event.
In a social media post, Carney said he was “devastated” to hear the news, adding, “I offer my deepest condolences to the loved ones of those killed and injured, to the Filipino Canadian community, and everyone in Vancouver. We are all mourning with you.”
He also said the federal government is closely monitoring the situation and thanked first responders for their swift and courageous action.
New Democratic MP Don Davies and Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim expressed their shock and condolences to the victims and the Filipino community.
