In shooting, Indian shooter Arjun Babuta narrowly missed out on a historic gold medal at the ISSF World Cup 2025 in Lima, Peru, after a nail-biting 10m Air Rifle final that saw him finish just 0.1 points behind reigning Olympic champion Lihao Sheng of China.
Babuta had to settle for silver but earned widespread praise for his grit and determination.
Babuta, who led the competition for most of the final, put up a remarkable performance under pressure but was ultimately edged out in the last few shots by Sheng, who claimed gold.
Earlier, India enjoyed a dominant run in the 10m Air Pistol events. Suruchi Inder Singh emerged as the standout performer, claiming two gold medals one in the women’s individual event and another in the mixed team event alongside Olympian Saurabh Chaudhary.
In the women’s 10m air pistol final, Suruchi topped the podium with a score of 243.6, edging out India’s shooting star Manu Bhaker, who secured silver with 242.3.
